Launched in the fall of 1975 by a squad of zealous Jessore youths, JCF began with adult literacy programs, even developing its own curriculum — a bold move. By 1976 they’d already set up non-formal education centers for kiddos, and by 1977 they’d secured official registration from the Directorate of Social Services. They say we’re not in it for the tool, we’re in it for the tool, what we’re in it for is the lever, and the lever is education, and really shifting social structure.

Microfinance-Education-Health Combo
JCF’s not just talkin’ change — they live it out in tangible community projects: from microcredit to early childhood education, from HIV/AIDS to climate change resilience.
One exception: They moved back in the day to a sweeper community, which was thought to be untouchable at the time, and totally reversed the scenario. These people went from being at the margins to owning businesses, sending kids to school, being immunized, using latrines, building community centers. Talk about social transformation.
Health Support Project
Jagorani Chakra Foundation Jessore implements a Health Support Project for women, women beneficiaries particularly from microfinance programs in Jessore Sadar. Through private clinics or government hospitals, doctors treat gynecological issues. Costs? Almost entirely JCF, the only things the beneficiaries are responsible for are food and travel, and in very advanced cases not even that.

Since 2015, they have performed more than 6,500 surgeries on women with a range of surgeries — from prolapse to tumor operations — with only three reported fatalities. That’s significant because each saved life is significant.
